The Healthy Kids
Foundation

Helping our youth live healthier and happier lives!

Background

The incidence of adolescent obesity in the United States has tripled over the past 20 years.  Today there are more than 9 million children between the age of 6 to 17 who are classified as being overweight and obese.  Pediatric obesity is now considered a significant public health problem.

According to the Center for Disease Control, diseases once confined to the adult population have surfaced among the adolescents such as; diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, and degenerative joint disease.

Treatment of obesity is often difficult and frustrating for most people.  According to a National Institutes of Health Study, 95% of all diets fail.  As a consequence, prevention is the best treatment for a condition like obesity.  Prevention strategies should start early in school.  However, nutrition education is not focus in many school districts.

The Healthy Kids Foundation was established as a 501 c.3 not-for-profit corporation in California with a Five Point Gold Star mission to Inform, Educate, Promote, Research, and to Treat adolescents disenfranchised by their communities and the Health Care system.

The focus of our operation is disease specific:
Pediatric Obesity Management

Responding to the growing obesity epidemic, the Healthy Kids Foundations will reach out directly to children, parents, teachers, and health care professionals in California’s culturally diverse communities.
